Euclidean Distance Matrix Analysis (EDMA): Estimation of mean form and mean form difference
نویسنده
چکیده
Euclidean Distance Matrix Analysis (EDMA) of form is a coordinate free approach to the analysis o f form using landmark data. In this paper, the problem of estimation of mean form, variancecovariance matrix, and mean form difference under the Gaussian perturbation model is considered using EDMA. The suggested estimators are based on the method of moments. They are shown to be consistent, that is as the sample size increases these estimators approach the true parameters. They are also shown to be computationally very simple. A method to improve their efficiency is suggested. Estimation in the presence of missing data is studied. In addition, it is shown that the superimposition method of estimation leads to incorrect mean form and variance-covariance structure.

A simple method for visualization of influential landmarks when using euclidean distance matrix analysis.
Euclidean distance matrix analysis (EDMA) differs from most other morphometric methods for the analysis of landmark coordinate data in that it is coordinate-system invariant. However, strict adherence to coordinate-system invariance (for both biological and statistical reasons) introduces some difficulty in using graphic aids for the analysis and interpretation of EDMA results. We present a sim...
متن کاملChanges in soft tissue facial profile of craniofacial microsomia patients: geometric morphometrics.
To analyze changes in the soft tissue profile associated with an inverted L osteotomy, preoperative, early postoperative, and late postoperative lateral cephalographs of 13 children with craniofacial microsomia (mean age 9 +/- 2 years) were scanned, and 11 soft tissue landmarks were digitized (digitization errors insignificant; P > 0.05). Cephalometry, Euclidean distance matrix analysis (EDMA),...
متن کاملEuclidean distance matrix analysis of surgical changes in prepubertal craniofacial microsomia patients treated with an inverted L osteotomy.
OBJECTIVES Correction of craniofacial microsomia (CFM) presents several challenges concerning the modality of surgical intervention. The aim of this study was to assess early and late surgical outcome, by undertaking Euclidean distance matrix analysis (EDMA) of CFM patients exhibiting an unilateral mandibular deformity that was surgically corrected by an inverted L osteotomy and autogenous bone...
متن کاملEuclidean distance matrix analysis: confidence intervals for form and growth differences.
Analysis of biological forms using landmark data has received substantial attention recently. Much of the statistical work in this area has concentrated on the estimation of average form, average form difference, and average growth difference. From the statistical, as well as the scientific point of view, it is important that any estimate of a scientifically relevant quantity be accompanied by ...
متن کاملAsymmetry of the craniofacial skeleton in the parents of children with a cleft lip, with or without a cleft palate, or an isolated cleft palate.
The objective of this study was to evaluate asymmetry of the parental craniofacial skeleton of subjects with a cleft lip, with or without cleft palate [CL(P)], and isolated cleft palate (CP). The postero-anterior (PA) cephalograms of 52 parents of children with CL(P) and 40 parents of children with CP from a sample of 196 children with non-syndromic clefts in the west of Scotland were analysed....
